This is a dedicated scholarship for the teaching of English as a second language to refugees. We are therefore inviting applications from teachers who are themselves refugees or have had previous experience of holding refugee status.

Alumni

The Trust encourages former Scholars to engage in development activities after returning home.

The Trustees have established a mentoring scheme to support scholars after they return home. A mentor helps scholars identify appropriate development areas, draw up project proposals, and  implement them effectively.

Projects are led by Hornby alumni in countries including the Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and Argentina.
Alumni projects have focused on the development of teachers’ knowledge and skills, recently  in the following areas:
  • enhancing the use of technology in teaching,
  • engaging with policies supporting multi-lingualism in education,
  • enhancing awareness of special educational needs in language education,
  •  improving teachers' knowledge and practices in assessment in language education.
