Preserving the memory
Located within the University of Warwick is the ELT Archive, a stand-alone, browsable historical collection of published and unpublished materials relating to the teaching of English as a foreign language and the development of applied linguistics between 1880 and 1980. It includes a "Hall of Fame", containing biographical and bibliographical information relating to selected major figures within this field - A S Hornby included.
In 1974, A S Hornby was interviewed by his Oxford University Press editor, Christina Ruse. The audio recording has been preserved in the Warwick ELT Archive and can be downloaded here. The interview is 41 minutes long and explores Hornby's career, teaching techniques and dictionary format.
